A little bit of history…

I century A.D. The earliest mention of marine fouling, referred as a “ship-stopper”, was made by the Greek philosopher Plutarch in “Essays and Miscellaneus”.

1917 Chilowsky and Langevin patented the first ultrasonic device in order to intercept submarines for defence purposes.

1952 The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution compiled for the U.S. Naval Institute the first, exhaustive, scientific paper on “Marine Fouling and its Prevention”.

1970/1980 The first evidences of the impact of chemicals in the sea water treatment management progressively emerged.

1981 MES S.r.l. was founded and started researching for ultrasonic applications in the naval industry.

1990/2000 The first Ultrasonic Antifouling Systems were tested and developed at MES S.r.l. specifically for the cruise industry. The Washing Tanks project was also developed and provided for commercial and military vessels.

2006 MES S.r.l. patented the first Ultrasonic Antifouling Systems.

2018 MES s.r.l developed the first fully digital Ultrasonic Antifouling Systems, to increase the control, diagnostic and efficiency of the overall antifouling procedure.

Now Our Ultrasonic Antifouling Systems are installed in more than 45 cruise ships and 81 vessel, mainly commercial and military, already use our ultrasonic Washing Tanks.

Let’s build something together!
